Martin Van Buren was the eighth U.S. President, serving from 1837 to 1841. He was nicknamed the 'Little Magician.' The obverse of the medal features a portrait of Martin Van Buren with the inscriptions 'MARTIN VAN BUREN,' 'PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,' and 'A.D. 1837' alongside the border of the medal.
